Europe's most sustainable sawmill

GELO Timber is part of the Wunsiedel Energy Park, the German “Silicon Valley” for renewable energies. The energy park supplies the Wunsiedel region and our plant with energy from biomass, wind, solar and green (CO2-neutral) hydrogen – and has an energy storage facility.

The special

Not only does our wood come from sustainable forestry. Our gantry crane and our forklifts are electrically powered by renewable energy - and even the heat for our drying chamber comes directly from the neighboring energy park. What's special about it? The heat is generated from our by-products "production waste" - i.e. sawdust and wood chips. These are processed into pellets by our partners directly on site. This creates waste heat that is not wasted but dries our sawn timber. Thanks to our proximity, we also save 7.000 truck journeys and tons of CO₂ every year!
