What are the requirements for solid structural timber?
Requirements according to DIN 4074-1: KVH must meet a number of requirements of DIN 4074-1. These include the requirements regarding knot condition, bark inclusion, cracks, discoloration and insect infestation.
Sorting class: The properties that are decisive for the load-bearing capacity of KVH are derived from DIN 1052.
Wood moisture: Solid structural timber may have a moisture content of 15% with a fluctuation range of 3%. Only in this range can it be guaranteed that no chemical treatment is necessary.
Heart-separated incision: Since the pith of a tree trunk does not necessarily run down the middle, heart-separated is defined as follows: In an ideally grown trunk, the pith would be cut through in a two-stemmed incision.
tree edge: Measured diagonally, maximum 10% of the smaller cross-sectional side
Longitudinal curvature: For a heart-separated incision, smaller than 8mm per 2 meters, for a heart-free incision, smaller than 4mm per 2 meters.
